About Us

History

Blacktown City Physie was established in 1963 under the name Doonside Physical Culture Club as part of the Edith Parsons School of Physical Culture.

In 2001 we changed our name to Blacktown City Physical Culture Club.

Our club has been providing “fun, friends & fitness” to the local community for over 60 years.

Throughout our history Blacktown City Physie has produced 7 State Grand champions. We have also enjoyed success in team competitions taking out many awards, most recently our Intermediate Seniors  winning back to back State titles in 2018 and 2019.

What is Physie?

Think of a sport that combines aspects of ballet and dance plus choreographed exercises set to modern music. Throw in a sparkling leotard and a pair of ballet shoes and you have the glamourous and unique sport of Edith Parsons Physical Culture. Physie promotes good posture, flexibility, core body strength, coordination, rhythm, self-esteem and team spirit.

Girls from 3 years of age are welcome to join our club. They progress through all age groups until they reach 17 and join our Seniors. They can stay in this section until they ready to move into our Ladies classes. You may join at any age and any level of fitness.

All members are taught a new syllabus of routines each year in their specific group. Non-compulsory individual and team competitions give our members the opportunity to perform these routines in front of an audience to increase their self-confidence, make new friends and experience the joy of teams.

Class Challenge

Class challenge is a practice competition completed at class where the girls compete with their class peers. It is a fun way to introduce our members to competitions as it promotes competition readiness.

Interclub Competition

A club will host and invite several other clubs to compete in a friendly setting, which is a great introduction to zone competitions as members are provided with an opportunity to compete with members from other clubs. These occur before the start of the official competition season. Places are awarded on the day and do not effect end of year results. Blacktown City usually attends 2 – 3 interclubs each year.

Teams

Teams of six girls/ ladies compete together in their age groups, from 7 and over, with the aim of creating perfect timing, position and placement. Team placings are awarded on the day.

Champion Girl/ Zone

All girls compete individually, in their age groups, to be selected to progress further.

  • Juniors (5 – 16 years) and Advance Ladies compete to progress to the State Finals.
  • Intermediate and Open Seniors progress directly to the State Grand Finals.
  • Elementary, 1st Year and 2nd year Ladies are awarded places at this competition.

State Finals

Held at Hurstville Civic Centre, girls from each age group from across the State, compete for selection to State Grand Finals.

State Grand Finals

Held at Sydney Town Hall, on the last Sunday of November, the top 12 girls in each age group compete against each other to be named Grand Champion Girl. The exception to this is the Open Seniors, were 24 girls are chosen and spilt into two sections. 6 places are given in each age group.

Championship Day or Sectional Day

This competition is for our Senior and Advance Ladies Section, who do not progress to the State Grand Finals. Seniors compete to be awarded places in their sections, whereas Advance Ladies compete in their age groups.

Club Competition

This is our clubs annual/ display day. It involves a club march past of all our members who are encouraged to wear their medals in recognition of their achievements. This is a fun way to showcase their work from the year in a friendly setting, in front of family and friends. All members receive an award.

Blacktown City physie girls become part of an extended physie family. Many life long friendships have been made through physie which builds a great club spirit.
